Hotel Metropolitan Kantipur (Tel: 4266518; www.kantipurhotel.com; singles/doubles),  just west of the Thamel action, is an excellent find, with a nice garden and friendly staff. Rooms are spacious and clean and come with TV, bathroom and hot water. There's a small group of hotels built around a cul de sac south off Lekhnath Marg.
